Owning real estate is challenging for most people. Few of us have all the financial, legal and handyman training that would make us top-notch property owners. In some jurisdictions, all the usual difficulties are compounded by unusual rules, procedures and customs. That's crazy about not being able to own the land. There are a few areas like this in Maine. In some instances, generations of families have rustics camps out in the woods in an area that was absorbed into one of the State Parks, the families were allowed to "keep" their camps and associated land with the condition that they could never sell them. If they did, they property ownership would default to the state. Kinda crazy!!!
