I find it hardest when I have an occasion that I need nice clothes for and I feel the need to spend a lot of money so that I will look good. I may feel good when I wear that outfit but afterwards, I often regret the purchase and wish I had spent less on something which I would wear again more frequently. I think it comes from the fact that I often feel that my husbands family look down on me and see me as poor and I want to prove them otherwise.

Your husband's family sound like shallow people, forget about pleasing them. Sites like this that show people how to reduce Unnecessary spending are what our over consuming economy needs.

We need to make things here again not just buy China junk and sell each other houses. Go see:

They have some good ideas and you can help get them implemented. I regret half the purchases I make, no kidding. Look around your cluttered house and identify how many things you wish had not bought and still had the money?
